February 2018 Program Descriptions
Every Tuesday and Wednesday Morning at 10:00am – Story Time!
Suggested for Ages 18 months – 4 years old
Join us every Tuesday and Wednesday morning for Story Time! During story time we learn songs together and include lots of movement such as dancing, yoga, ASL, and more! The stories are chosen with interaction in mind to hold children’s attention and get them excited about reading! We include number and letter recognition through games and songs as well. At each story time we create a special project to take home that reflects our theme of that week. Check the calendar for each week’s themes! Come join us, we’d love to see you there 🙂
Every Wednesday at 9:30am – Morning Baby Time!
Suggested for Infants to Toddlers
Baby time is composed of a lot of fun songs, rhymes, and movement games to do any time with your baby! It’s also just a special time to work in a little one on one time during the busy day.
Every Friday at 1:30pm – STEAM Activity Stations
Suggested for Ages 3 – 5
Join us Fridays at 1:30PM for play time that focus on the wonders of our world! These STEAM based stations are great for kids 3 – 5 years old and who are curious explorers! This month’s themes include Shadows, Colors, Shapes, Teeth, and Weather! There is a different activity for kids to explore the theme at every station as well as example questions to help start a conversation with your little one about what they are observing!

Thursday February 1st– Take Your Child to the Library Day!
Take Your Child to the Library Day is a free, fun, family-friendly event supported by the Connecticut Library Consortium and endorsed by the Association for Library Service to Children (a division of the American Library Association), Reach Out and Read, and Read to Grow.

**4:30pm “Book BINGO” for all ages with snacks, prizes, and a craft!
**5:30pm “Library Scavenger Hunt” for kids and their grown-ups to learn your way around the library
**6:30pm “Library Trivia Game” for parents and caregivers to discover all of our cool services in a fun way! (Crafts and activities will be available for kids to explore during trivia)
Start With Hello Week! February 5th – 9th
Start With Hello Week brings attention to the growing epidemic of social isolation in our schools and communities, and empowers young people to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within their school or youth organization. We are participating at the library with some fun programs during the week!
**Monday 2/5 at 6pm: “Prime Time” Game Night! Come try your hand at Jeopardy, Family Feud, and Wheel of Fortune! (Grades 6th—12th)
**Thursday 2/8 at 6pm: “Ice Cream and Icebreakers!” An ice cream social and fun and silly icebreaker games! (Grades 6th—12th)
**Friday 2/9 at 4pm: “After School Snack Potluck!” It is “No One Eats Alone” Day so let’s all enjoy some after school snacks together! Sign up to bring your favorite snack meet some new friends! (All Ages!)

Monday February 12th at 5pm – 7pm – Drop-in Craft “Valentine’s Creation Station”
A craft-ernoon for all ages! We will have paper, ribbon, lace, and more art supplies available to make Valentines for the ones you love!
Tuesday February 13th – Middle School Book Club 3:00pm
Grades 6th – 8th
Meets in Library Media Center of Great Oak Middle School
Every month we will be reading and discussing a different book. At this meeting we will be discussing The War I Finally Won
Friday February 16th at 4pm – Harry Potter 5 Fandom Friday!
Grades 6th – 12th
Harry Potter Trivia! A “Guess the Flavor Challenge” with Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans! Butterbeer! And a “Find the Horcrux” Challenge! Space is limited, sign up ASAP!
Tuesday February 20th at 2:30pm – “Secret Life of Pets” Movie!
All Ages Welcome
Today is National “Love Your Pet” Day! To celebrate we will be showing the movie, “The Secret Life of Pets” at the library!
Thursday February 22nd at 4:30pm-6:30pm – Lego Club
All Ages Welcome!
We will be taking out the smaller Legos, Lego books, Lego magazines, Lego EVERYTHING. All materials will be out in the children’s section available for you to play and build with at your leisure.
**Special Note** Smaller Legos will be out for older kids to enjoy, please supervise young children around small Legos
Monday February 26th at 6pm-7:30pm – Girl Scouts Host a Craft Night!
All Ages Welcome!
Volunteers from a local Girl Scout Troop will be joining us to host a fun craft night for families!
Thursday February 1st– FOLIO Meeting 6:30pm
The purpose of the Friends of the Library in Oxford shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in the Oxford Public Library; to focus public attention on library services, facilities, and needs; and to stimulate gifts, endowments, and bequests to the Library. The Friends of the Library in Oxford is devoted to providing supplementary programs, services, and equipment to increase the scope and effectiveness of the Oxford Public Library and to raise funds to that end.
Monday February 5th – Library Building Committee Meeting 7:00pm
The Library Planning and Building Committee is charged with studying the long-range library plan and the library siting committee reports, as well as studying area libraries. The committee has been working with the architectural firm Peter Gisolfi Associates and our lead architect is Michael Tribe. We are currently meeting monthly on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at Town Hall to move forward with our charge. Meetings are open to the public and we welcome citizen’s input.
Thursday February 15th– Adult Book Discussion 6:30pm
This month, the group will be discussing Celine: A Novel by Peter Heller. If you would like to read the book to join the discussion, let any of the library staff know so we can order you a copy!
Wednesday February 21st – Library Board Meeting 7:00pm
The Library Board discusses library policy, advocating, resources, and more. The Board meets 10 months a year, with occasional special meetings as needed. The regular schedule of meeting dates is the third Wednesday each month at 7pm
