Programming is a teensy bit light this month as we work on planning for our big move!  But we hope to see you at some of these fun events!  Don’t forget you can sign up online here and check out the full calendar as well!

January 2018 Program Descriptions

Weekly Programs

Every Tuesday and Wednesday Morning at 10:00am – Story Time!

Suggested for Ages 18 months – 4 years old

Join us every Tuesday and Wednesday morning for Story Time!  During story time we learn songs together and include lots of movement such as dancing, yoga, ASL, and more!  The stories are chosen with interaction in mind to hold children’s attention and get them excited about reading!  We include number and letter recognition through games and songs as well.  At each story time we create a special project to take home that reflects our theme of that week. Check the calendar for each week’s themes!  Come join us, we’d love to see you there 🙂


Every Wednesday at 9:30am – Morning Baby Time!

Suggested for Infants to Toddlers

Registration Required

Baby time is composed of a lot of fun songs, rhymes, and movement games to do any time with your baby! It’s also just a special time to work in a little one on one time during the busy day.

Every Friday at 1:30pm – STEAM Activity Stations

Suggested for Ages 3 – 5

Registration Required

Join us Fridays at 1:30PM for play time that focus on the wonders of our world! These STEAM based stations are great for kids 3 – 5 years old and who are curious explorers!  This month’s themes include Birds, Germs, Snow/Ice, and Opposites! There is a different activity for kids to explore the theme at every station as well as example questions to help start a conversation with your little one about what they are observing!

Thursday January 4th at 2:15pm – Nutmeg Book Club

Grades 9 – 12

Meets in the Library Media Center at Oxford Public High School

Join us every month to read and discuss a different book from the Nutmeg Nominee list!  This month we are discussing X: A Novel.

Monday January 8th at 5pm-7pm – Drop In Craft-ernoon

Suggested for Grades K – 3rd

Pop in at the library anytime between 5 and 7pm to create a bird feeder!

Tuesday January 9th – Middle School Book Club 3:00pm

Grades 6th – 8th

Meets in Library Media Center of Great Oak Middle School

Every month we will be reading and discussing a different book.  At this meeting we will be discussing Thirteen Chairs.

Friday January 12th at 4:00pm – Five Fandom Friday

Grades 6th – 12th

Registration Required

This month we are celebrating Studio Ghibli!  If you love Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, and all the others, be sure to join us!  We’ll have crafts, trivia, games, and more every meeting relating to the theme.  The “five” comes in when we choose a theme to blog about.  For example; 5 Fictional Bffs, 5 Favorite Fictional Places, 5 Fictional Pets I’d Like to Own.  Whatever we write will be put up on the teen blog of the library’s website.

Thursday January 18th at 6:00pm – Winnie the Pooh Movie Night!

All Ages Welcome

Today is National Winnie the Pooh Day!  To celebrate we will be showing the Winnie the Pooh movie at the library!

Thursday January 25th at 4:30pm-6:30pm – Lego Club

All Ages Welcome!

Registration Required

We will be taking out the smaller Legos, Lego books, Lego magazines, Lego EVERYTHING.  All materials will be out in the children’s section available for you to play and build with at your leisure.

**Special Note** Smaller Legos will be out for older kids to enjoy, please supervise young children around small Legos

Monday January 29th at 5:30pm-7pm – Drop In Puzzle Games

Suggested for Grades 3rd – 6th

Today is National Puzzle Day!  We will have tons of puzzles out for you to work on together!  There will be word puzzles, number puzzles, spatial reasoning puzzles, and many more!


Adult Programs

Thursday January 4th– FOLIO Meeting 6:30pm

The purpose of the Friends of the Library in Oxford shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in the Oxford Public Library; to focus public attention on library services, facilities, and needs; and to stimulate gifts, endowments, and bequests to the Library. The Friends of the Library in Oxford is devoted to providing supplementary programs, services, and equipment to increase the scope and effectiveness of the Oxford Public Library and to raise funds to that end.

Monday January 8th – Library Building Committee Meeting 7:00pm

The Library Planning and Building Committee is charged with studying the long-range library plan and the library siting committee reports, as well as studying area libraries.  The committee has been working with the architectural firm Peter Gisolfi Associates and our lead architect is Michael Tribe. We are currently meeting monthly on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at Town Hall to move forward with our charge. Meetings are open to the public and we welcome citizen’s input.

Wednesday January 10th – Library Board Meeting 7:00pm

The Library Board discusses library policy, advocating, resources, and more.  The Board meets 10 months a year, with occasional special meetings as needed. The regular schedule of meeting dates is the third Wednesday each month at 7pm

Thursday January 11th – “Final Expense Planning” 6:00pm

A financial advisor will be joining us to host a program regarding preparation for final expenses.

 If weather requires us to cancel this program, it will be held instead on Monday January 22nd at 6:00pm

Thursday December 20 – Adult Book Discussion 6:30pm

This month, the group will be discussing The Nest by Cynthia D’aprix Sweeney. If you would like to read the book to join the discussion, let any of the library staff know so we can order you a copy!
