December Program Descriptions!

Weekly Programs

Every Tuesday and Wednesday Morning at 10:00am – Story Time!

Suggested for Ages 18 months – 4 years old

Join us every Tuesday and Wednesday morning for Story Time!  During story time we learn songs together and include lots of movement such as dancing, yoga, ASL, and more!  The stories are chosen with interaction in mind to hold children’s attention and get them excited about reading!  We include number and letter recognition through games and songs as well.  At each story time we create a special project to take home that reflects our theme of that week. Check the calendar for each week’s themes!  Come join us, we’d love to see you there 🙂

Suggested for Infants to Toddlers

Baby time is composed of a lot of fun songs, rhymes, and movement games to do any time with your baby! It’s also just a special time to work in a little one on one time during the busy day.

Every Friday at 1:30pm – STEAM Activity Stations
Suggested for Ages 3 – 5
Registration Required
Join us Fridays at 1:30PM for play time that focus on the wonders of our world! These STEAM based stations are great for kids 3 – 5 years old and who are curious explorers! This month’s themes include Textures, Hibernation, North and South Poles, and Time! There is a different activity for kids to explore the theme at every station as well as example questions to help start a conversation with your little one about what they are observing!

Tuesday December 5 – Middle School Book Club 3:00pm
Grades 6th – 8th
Meets in Library Media Center of Great Oak Middle School
Every month we will be reading and discussing a different book. At this meeting we will be discussing I Am Princess X.

Thursday December 7 at 2:15pm – Nutmeg Book Club
Grades 9 – 12
Meets in the Library Media Center at Oxford Public High School
Join us every month to read and discuss a different book from the Nutmeg Nominee list!

**SPECIAL VISITOR** Kid’s Yoga – Thursday December 7 at 5:00pm
All Ages Welcome!
Registration Required
So many of our favorite stories have tons of yoga poses hidden right in the pages! Nicole, a local kid’s yoga teacher, will joining us to lead the story time! We’ll be interacting with some fun books by becoming certain animals or items in the books via different poses!

All Ages Welcome!

Ms. Jean is back with a wonderfully wintery meeting of Science Snoopers! Join us to learn all about animals and plant life in the winter. Take a look at hibernation, migration, and the deep sleepers.

Thursday December 14 at 5:00pm – Gingerbread Houses
All Ages Welcome!
Registration Required
We’ll be making a gingerbread library! A super sweet construction in a snowy frosting setting! Sign up soon! Space is limited!

Friday December 15 at 4:00pm – Five Fandom Friday
Grades 6th – 12th
Registration Required
This month we are doing Harry Potter!  Come play games, trivia, Quidditch, make Butterbeer, and more!

Monday December 18 at 6:30pm – PJ Party and Big Kid Story Time!
Grades K – 3rd
Registration Required
Jump in your jammies and come hang out for some fun stories, a craft, and lots of movement!

Thursday December 21 at 4:30pm-6:30pm – Lego Club
All Ages Welcome!
Registration Required
We will be taking out the smaller Legos, Lego books, Lego magazines, Lego EVERYTHING. All materials will be out in the children’s section available for you to play and build with at your leisure.
**Special Note** Smaller Legos will be out for older kids to enjoy, please supervise young children around small Legos

Adult Programs

Monday December 4 – Adult Crafteroon  6:30pm

Bring your friends and get creative and crafty this afternoon!  We will supply everything you need to make a cool, fun craft to take home!

 

Thursday December 7– FOLIO Meeting 6:30pm

The purpose of the Friends of the Library in Oxford shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in the Oxford Public Library; to focus public attention on library services, facilities, and needs; and to stimulate gifts, endowments, and bequests to the Library. The Friends of the Library in Oxford is devoted to providing supplementary programs, services, and equipment to increase the scope and effectiveness of the Oxford Public Library and to raise funds to that end.

 

Monday December 11 – Library Building Committee Meeting 7:00pm

The Library Planning and Building Committee is charged with studying the long-range library plan and the library siting committee reports, as well as studying area libraries.  The committee has been working with the architectural firm Peter Gisolfi Associates and our lead architect is Michael Tribe. We are currently meeting monthly on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at Town Hall to move forward with our charge. Meetings are open to the public and we welcome citizen’s input.

Wednesday December 20 – Library Board Meeting 7:00pm

The Library Board discusses library policy, advocating, resources, and more.  The Board meets 10 months a year, with occasional special meetings as needed. The regular schedule of meeting dates is the third Wednesday each month at 7pm

Thursday December 20 – Adult Book Discussion 6:30pm

This month, the group will be discussing Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg. If you would like to read the book to join the discussion, let any of the library staff know so we can order you a copy!

For accessing our new Graphics and Comics e-collection, click on the button below, go to Create an Account on the top right, and fill in your library card number, name and email. Then browse hundreds of comics and graphic novels on your computer, or download the free app onto your device. All ages are available, and can be limited by middle school, high school, and adult only.

One Friday a month, we’ll focus on a new theme.  Some ideas include Harry Potter, Studio Ghibli, Hunger Games, Doctor Who, etc. But we are not tied down to these suggestions.  We’ll compare notes about things we “geek out” over and choose some common themes!  We’ll have crafts, trivia, games, and more every meeting relating to the theme.  The “five” comes in when we choose a theme to blog about.  For example; 5 Fictional Bffs, 5 Favorite Fictional Places, 5 Fictional Pets I’d Like to Own.  Whatever we write will be put up on the teen blog of the library’s website.
