September Program Descriptions!

September is almost here!  Just because Summer is ending, we hope you won’t lose the momentum of coming to the library, we’d miss you all!

We’re always here with great book recommendations (for school or pleasure!), a meeting place for your study group or to do homework with friends, to just hang out, and (of course) SUPER fun programs!  Check out the programs we have planned (below or on our Calendar) and be sure to sign up ahead of time for those which require registration.

Whatever you’re up to this September, we hope to continuing seeing you often!

September Library Program Descriptions

“My Library Card is Cool Because…” Contest! 

  • Write a brief paragraph about why your library card is important to you to celebrate National Library Card Sign Up Month! The writing contest is open to grades K-12 and one winner from each other following age groups will be selected Friday, September 23rd.  Kindergarten – 2nd    3rd – 5th Grade. 6th – 8th Grade. 9th – 12th Grade.  You can officially sign up for the contest Thursday September 3rd from 3-8pm or simply submit your paragraph any day before the 23rd with your name, grade, and phone number on it.  Good luck!

Fun Fridays: Library Scavenger Hunt!  Friday 9/2    4:00PM – 4:30PM

  • How well can you get around your library? Come test your skills and go on a treasure hunt for magazines, reference, and more!
    • Registration Required. Grades 4th – 6th

Story Time Theme: The Jungle! Tuesday 9/6     10:00AM

  • A fun story and craft time all about the jungle! This Tuesday, story time will be led by Ms. Dawn as a special treat!
    • Suggested for ages 2 – 5 (younger and older siblings welcome!)

Music and Movement! Wednesday 9/7     10:00AM

  • Come shake your sillies out with dancing, finger play songs, and instruments!
    • Suggested for ages 2 – 5 (younger and older siblings welcome!)

Teen Night: Chopped: Craft Edition  Thursday 9/8    5:00PM

  • Join us for this awesome twist on a favorite show! You will receive a box of secret “ingredients” with which you will create a unique craft; all of the mystery items must be included in your craft and your creation.
    • Registration Required. Grades 7th – 12th

National Teddy Bear Day! Teddy Bear Picnic! Friday 9/9    4:00PM – 4:30PM

  • Bring your bears for a fun story time all about our furry friends!
    • Registration Required. All Ages Welcome!

Infant Fun and Interactive Program! – Tuesday 9/13     9:30AM – 10:00AM

  • A program just for your little one! Simple songs, bouncing, and finger play games your baby will love!
    • Registration Required. Great for babies under 2!

Story Time Theme: Apples! Tuesday 9/13     10:00AM

  • September is the best for apple picking! Join us for a fun story and craft program all about yummy apples!
    • Suggested for ages 2 – 5 (younger and older siblings welcome!)

Story Time Theme: Crayons! Wednesday 9/14     10:00AM

  • A fun and interactive story time about our favorite art medium!
    • Suggested for ages 2 – 5 (younger and older siblings welcome!)

Preschool Afternoon Story Time!  Wednesday 9/14 12:30PM

  • Join us after preschool for some fun and unwinding!  A story, some songs, even a little yoga!  A great way for your preschool to relax after a busy morning!
      • Registration Required.   Suggested for ages 3 and 4 (younger and older siblings welcome!)

Pokémon Club Thursday 9/15     4:15PM

  • Whether you play the video games or cards or enjoy the show and movies, come play against or just chat with other friends interested in Pokémon!
    • Registration Required. All Ages Welcome!

Fun Fridays: An Olympic “Games” Program!  Friday 9/16    4:00PM – 4:30PM

  • Olympic Bingo, Olympic Trivia, Olympic Charades! Join us for these fun Olympic games!
    • Registration Required. Grades 4th – 6th

**SPECIAL EVENT!** Library Card Sign Up Party!  Monday 9/19 6:00PM – 7:00PM

  • September is National Library Card Sign Up Month! If you are a kid and do not have your library card yet, come join us for games, snacks, and fun!  While you’re there, sign up for your library card!
    • Registration Required. All Ages Welcome! (Friends who already have library cards also welcome to join the fun!!)

**SPECIAL Visitor!** Barnyard Friends Science Program With Special Visitor Ms. Jean!    Tuesday 9/20     10:00AM

  • Jean, of Science Snoopers fame, will be joining our Tuesday morning with a whole barnyard! This science program is great for toddler and preschoolers with easy to grasp info about farms, animals who live there, and crops that grow there.  Also, Ms. Jean bring a barn full of friendly toy animals to play with!
    • Registration Required.

Story Time Theme: Autumn Tuesday 9/21     10:00AM

  • September 22nd is the first day of Autumn! Let’s get ready with fabulously fun Fall stories, songs, and crafts!
    • Suggested for ages 2 – 5 (younger and older siblings welcome!

  • We will be taking out the smaller Legos, Lego books, Lego magazines, Lego EVERYTHING. All materials will be out in the children’s section available for you to play and build with at your leisure.

September 26th – September 30th is National Banned Books Week!  Celebrate writing and reading what matters to you!

Banned Books Based Movies: Every evening we will be showing a movie based on a popular banned books.  Title, time, and ratings are listed below

  • We’ll be reading two favorites; Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? And Where the Wild Things Are, both of which have been briefly challenged or banned in certain states!  Fun activities and crafts to go along with these favorite picture books!
    • Suggested for ages 2 – 5 (younger and older siblings welcome!)

Teen Night: Banned Book Trivia Tuesday 9/27      3:00PM

  • Trivia will include knowledge about book plots, authors, and reasons for the book being challenged or banned.
    • Registration Required. Grades 7th – 12th

Banned Books Week Readathon!  Thursday 9/29 7:00PM

  • A fun excuse to sit, relax, and read! Come join us with whatever you’re reading, banned or not, to get cozy and enjoy an hour to celebrate reading whatever you’d like!
    • All ages, kids and grown ups!

**Weekly Programs**

  • Chess Club: Every Monday at 5:30PM (Library closed Monday September 5th)  All ages and skill levels
  • All Ages Play Group: A perfect opportunity to meet families in the area!  Though Ms. Robyn is not present during the program, we wanted to provide a common meeting place for families looking to socialize or for a fun morning activity!  Different books, puzzles, and music will be displayed for families to explore and check out!
    • Registration is strongly encouraged.

    • Come enjoy some snacks, and join us for a trivia game. All patrons who register for a library card during September will receive a free book courtesy of the Friends of the Library!

“G is for Gold Medal” An Olympic Games Program – Monday August 1st  2:00PM

  • Stories and activities about the Olympic Games!
    • Grades 4th – 6th

Story Time: “Round and Around” (Hosted by Ms. Dawn) – Tuesday August 2nd10:00AM

  • Stories about things that go! Robyn will be out for the morning so Ms. Dawn will be hosting this story time!
    • Ages Toddler – Preschool

Story Time: “Zoom!”  – Wednesday August 3rd 10:00AM

  • Robyn is back and will be hosting a second story and activity time about the world of transportation@

**SPECIAL VISITOR**  Teen Yoga led by Jeanne – Wednesday August 3rd 3:00PM

  • Local yoga instructor, Jeanne, will be hosting a yoga program tailored specifically for our teens! Whether you’ve been doing yoga for a while or if this will be your first try, you’re sure to have a great time!

End of Kids Summer Reading Challenge!  Family Game Day – Wednesday August 10th 2:30-4:30 PM

  • Stop in any time between 2:30 and 4:30 PM to enjoy snacks and games at the library. This will also be the last day to turn in any reading logs and receive prizes for your reading!  Registration is not required for this program, however, two parts of it will be at specific times; please sign up  for the following specific portions.  We will play Bingo at 3 pm and host some large group games (freeze dance, hot potato, etc) at 4 pm.

Bookmark Coloring Activity – Thursday August 11th 6:00PM

  • Personalize bookmarks to make every time you read special!
    • Grades K-3rd

Teen Night: Letters to Your Favorite Author – Monday August 15th 6:30PM

  • Have you ever wished you could tell your favorite author how much you loved their book? Or ask them to explain something?  Now is your chance!  On Monday August 15th we invite you to come hang out, chat with friends, and write to your favorite author!  After the program I will find contact info for each and send your letters!

Chess Club – Mondays at 5:30PM

 

Make new friends, learn the game, or test new strategies.  All ages and skill levels are welcome.  This is one of our fastest growing programs so we encourage registration for this event each week to aid with partner match ups, however, drop in guests are always welcome!
