July Special Events!

Every program at the library is a blast, but this month we have some very special visitors coming that we are EXTRA excited about! All of these programs require prior registration so make sure to call, e-mail, or visit us to sign up!

Wednesday July 6th:  We will be having a professional yoga instructor coming to teach two yoga programs!  For grades K-3rd the program will be at 11:00 am.  for grades 4th – 6th the program will be at 12:00 pm.

Friday July 8th:  Ms. Jean will be hosting a special science program about the history of inventions for grades 7th – 12th.

Monday July 11th:  Tracy is back to lead a fun and energetic kids Zumba program!  The program will start at 2:00 pm and is tailored for grades K-5th though younger and older participants are welcome if interested!

Thursday July 14th:  Live Concert! The Survivor Swing Band will be visiting the library to perform upbeat and energetic swing music at 1:30 pm!

Friday July 15th: At 4:00 pm, local gymnast and cheer enthusiast, Anna, will be coming by to talk about her experiences in gymnastics and cheer as well as to show us some cool demonstrations!

Thursday July 21st: The mascots for the Hartford Yard Goats baseball team are coming to the library at 3:30!  All participants for the program will receive a voucher for a free Hartford Yard Goats baseball game!!

Wednesday July 27th: An interactive drama production at 2:00 pm!  Come be a part of the action as we learn and act out the story “The Tortoise and the Hare” with special visitor and story time theater expert, Ms. Ingrid, leading the group!  This program is for kids grades K-5th.  Space limited to 20 participants so be sure to sign up asap!

Oh Baby! Friday July 1st 12:00PM

  • Join us for fun songs, stories, and interactions with you and your little one!
    • Recommended Age: 6month-18months Prior Registration Required

Dance, Dance, Dance! – Tuesday July 5th 10:00AM

  • We’ll be putting on our dancing songs! We’ll dance along to fun songs like Freeze Dance, Animal Action, and more!
    • Registration for this program is required. Infants – Preschool

 

Musical Mornings – Wednesday July 6th  10:00AM

  • Fingerplay songs, large group movement, sing alongs, and instruments!
    • Registration for this program is required. Infants – Preschool

**SPECIAL VISITOR**  Kids Yoga Grades K-2nd – Wednesday July 6th 11:00AM

  • Jeanne, a yoga instructor right here in Oxford, will be leading two kid’s yoga programs. Each class is specifically tailored for each age group.  All kids are sure to enjoy this fun yoga program!

The Great Pancake Race!  A Silly story/activity time – Thursday August 7th 5:00PM

  • The Great Pancake Race is an activity that is part of the feast day the UK celebrates before Lent. The idea of the race is to flip your pancake as you run to the finish line!  We’ll be having our own pancake race and enjoying some fun stories and activities as well!
    • Registration for this program is required. All ages welcome!

 

**SPECIAL VISITOR** “Good Idea” A Science Program About Inventions – Friday July 8th 1:00PM

  • Jean, our Science expert, will be hosting a program about inventions. Participants will also have a chance to try their hand at inventing something as well!
    • Registration for this program is required. Grades 7th – 12th

 

**SPECIAL VISITOR** Kids Zumba with Ms. Tracy – Monday July 11th 2:00PM

  • Miss Tracy is a Zumba instructor right here in Connecticut! She will be visiting the library to host a fun and energetic Zumba class just for kids!  Zumba helps develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children’s lives by making fitness fun. Classes incorporate key childhood development elements like leadership, respect, team work, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, cultural awareness.
    • Registration is required. Grades K-5

 

Air Battle of the Bands – Monday July 11th 6:30PM

  • Perform as an individual or make a band with other participants! You will be able to choose a song and have time to plan out an amazing performance for the rest of the group.  All instrument playing and singing must be mimed!
    • Registration for this program is required. Grades 7th – 12th

 

**SPECIAL VISITOR** Yummy (Part 1) Story time with Ms. Rachel – Tuesday July 12th 10:00AM

  • Rachel is back to host another immersive story time at the library. Rachel includes props to listen to or touch throughout the story to really engage the audience!

  • Stories and activities about our favorite treats!

  • Come experience the classic melodies from an era gone by–hot tunes and soothing ballads of the Swing Era–plus many of the wonderful melodies from the two decades that followed!

Teen Coloring – Thursday July 14th 4:00PM

  • Coloring has been gaining tons of popularity recently. It’s relaxing, social, a stress reliever, and just plain fun!  We’ll provide the pictures, crayons, and colored pencils, you just come enjoy yourself!
    • Registration for this program is required. Grades 7th – 12th

 

**SPECIAL VISITOR** Gymnastic and Cheer Demonstration – Friday July 15th 4:00PM

  • Local cheer and gymnastic enthusiast, Anna, will be coming to the library to talk about her experiences with the sports as well as demonstrating some moves!

**SPECIAL VISITOR** The Mascots From the Hartford Yard Goats Come Visit! – Thursday July 21st 3:30PM

  • The Hartford Yard Goats are a Connecticut baseball team that have invited our library to be a part of their Reading Books In Summer program! Their mascots will be visiting to promote summer reading and all participants in the program will receive a voucher for a complimentary ticket to one of two Hartford Yard Goats baseball game taking place August 16th or 17th !!
    • Registration for this program is required. All ages welcome!

 

Sports Mad Libs – Friday July 22nd 3:45PM

  • Come hang out at the library for a relaxing afternoon of playing sports themed Mad Libs with your friends!

Teen Night: Video Game Trivia – Monday July 25th 4:00PM

  • Test your knowledge (and earn more prize tickets!!!) of all things video games, from Pong to Dark Souls!
    • Registration for this program is required. Grades 7th – 12th

 

“Move It!” Story Time – Tuesday July 26th   10:00AM

  • A fun story time about all the different ways to keep active!
    • Registration for this program is required. Infants – Preschool

“Beat the Record!”  Tuesday July 26th   2:00PM

  • We will be taking a look at some famous world records and finding a few that we can challenge ourselves with!
    • Registration for this program is required. Grades K – 3rd

 

“Keep On Moving!” Story Time – Wednesday July 27th   10:00AM

  • An active story time with some music and movement mixed in!
    • Registration for this program is required. Infants – Preschool

 

**SPECIAL VISITOR**  “The Tortoise and the Hare” Wednesday July 27th 2:00PM

  • A Creative Dramatics workshop and interactive story time. You will play a part in the classic story of the Tortoise and the Hare!  The program will be led by story and drama expert Ms. Ingrid!  Space for this program is limited to 20 participants so be sure to sign up soon!

Teen night: Live Action Pac Man – Thursday July 28th 2:00PM

  • We will take turns being Pac Man and try to make it through the mazes while collecting dots, special items, and avoiding ghosts!
    • Registration for this program is required. Grades 7th – 12th

 

“Beat the Record!”  Friday July 29th 3:00PM

  • We will be taking a look at some famous world records and finding a few that we can challenge ourselves with!
    • Registration for this program is required. Grades 4th – 6th  

 

Weekly Programs

Chess Club – Mondays at 5:30PM (library closed May 30th)

Make new friends, learn the game, or test new strategies.  All ages and skill levels are welcome.  This is one of our fastest growing programs so we encourage registration for this event each week to aid with partner match ups, however, drop in guests are always welcome!

  • All ages welcome!

 

**All Ages Play Group– Fridays at 10:00AM

  • A perfect opportunity to meet families in the area! Though Ms. Robyn is not present during the program, we wanted to provide a common meeting place for families looking to socialize or for a fun morning activity!  Different books, puzzles, and music will be displayed for families to explore and check out!
    • Registration is strongly encouraged.
