Happy May everyone!

School is winding down and summer is almost here and the library is THE place to be!  We have tons of brand new programs for kids AND adults and we hope you’ll join us for the fun!  If any of the programs that you are interested require prior registration just give us a call at (203) 888-6944 or e-mail me at rrivero@oxfordlib.org  Don’t forget to check out our May Calendar

May 2016 Program Descriptions

Children’s Book Week May 2-May 6 

Mother Goose Story Time Monday May 2nd 2:00PM

  • May 1st is Mother Goose Day! We will be celebrating with a fun story time on Monday May 2nd with stories, rhymes, and flannel board fun!
    • All Ages Prior Registration Required

Kids Classics Story Time Tuesday Mary 3rd 10:00AM

  • We’ll be reading some of the best loved children’s stories!
    • All Ages

Storybook Bingo Tuesday May 3rd 4:15PM

  • Come for fun and a chance to win cool prizes with Bingo boards based on your favorite kids books!
    • Grades K-3rd Prior Registration Required

Musical Mornings Wednesday May 4th 10:00AM

  • Join us for a morning of music! We will be exploring instruments, dancing, sing alongs, finger plays, and more!  The program runs 30 minutes long and is fun for children of any age!
    • All Ages

Star Wars Craft Wednesday May 4th 4:15PM

  • In a library close, close to home we will be creating fun crafts inspired by a galaxy far, far away. May the fourth be with you!
    • All Ages Prior Registration Required

Book Posters Thursday May 5th 5:00PM

  • Come create a poster for your favorite book! You can bring them home to decorate your room or display them at the library!
    • Grades 4th-6th Prior Registration Required

Children’s Book Trivia Friday May 6th 4:00-4:30PM

  • How well do you know your favorite children’s books?
    • All Ages Prior Registration Required

  Junior Friends of the Library Planning Meeting – Monday May 9th  at 6:30PM and Tuesday May 10th  at 4:15PM

  • The Junior Friends group plays an active role in planning programs, fundraisers, and making the library a better place! During May’s meeting we will be planning on hosting a program over the summer!
    • Ages 8-18 Prior Registration Required

The Pond Storytime Tuesday May 10th 10:00AM

  • A fun storytime about ponds and the plants and animals that make their homes there!
    • All Ages

Oh Baby!  Infant Play Group Tuesday May 10th 3:00PM

  • Join us for fun songs, stories, and interactions with you and your little one!
    • Recommended Age: 6month-18months Prior Registration Required

Show and Tell Story Time Wednesday May 11th 10:00AM

  • Come join us for story time with a twist! We invite you to bring a favorite toy or special item from home to talk about with our friends! This program is walk-in welcome and fun for every age!
    • All Ages

Author Visit!!!  Wednesday May 11th 4:00PM

  • Holly Danowski, author of Who is the Sock Fairy?, will be joining us to share her new children’s book!
    • All Ages Prior Registration Required

Improv and Acting Games Thursday May 12th 5:30PM

  • Come perform and play! We’ll be trying out acting scenes and hilarious improve games!
    • Grades 7th -12th Prior Registration Required

Mad Libs Friday May 13th 4:00PM-4:30PM

  • Come relax and kick off your weekend with some silly Mad Libs!
    • Grades 4th-6th Prior Registration Required

All Ages Coloring Program Monday May 16th 6:30PM

  • Coloring has been gaining tons of popularity recently. It’s relaxing, social, a stress reliever, and just plain fun!  We’ll provide the pictures, crayons, and colored pencils, you just come enjoy yourself!

Story Time with Special Guest!  Tuesday May 17th 10:00AM

  • Our good friend Ms. Rachel will be joining us at story time! Rachel is a speech-language pathologist and will be hosting this fun, interactive, and educational story time!

Make Your Own Bookmark Tuesday May 17th 4:00PM

  • Your books say a lot about you so shouldn’t your bookmarks? Come create your own personalized page saver!
    • Grades 4th-6th Prior Registration Required

Art-Themed Story Time  Wednesday May 18th 10:00AM

  • Wednesdays story time will be all about colors and creativity!
    • All ages

Collector’s Club  Wednesday May 18th 4:15PM

  • Do you collect shells, cards, figurines, or anything else? Join us at the Collectors Club to show off your awesome collection and learn about other people’s as well!
    • All ages

Craft Program Hosted by the Girl Scouts  Thursday May 19th 3:45PM

  • One of our local Girl Scout Troops is working toward their Bronze Award! Stop by to see what fun activities they have in store and to support them as they work toward their Bronze Award!

Pokemon Club  Thursday  May 19th 4:15PM

  • Bring your cards, bring your friends!  Play against opponents and try to catch ’em all!

Teen Coloring Night  Thursday  May 19th 6:45PM

Special Afternoon Storytime!  Friday May 20th 5:00PM

  • The Oxford Festival of Arts Cultural and Enterainment is schedule for May 20th, 21st, and 22nd. There will be a showcase exhibit in the Town Hall Meetingroom with a Meet the Artist Gala Opening on Friday May 20th from 6-9PM.  To get you in the mood for fun, the library will be hosting a story time and craft downstairs at 5:00PM!

Kids Yoga and Bedtime Stories Monday May 23rd 6:30PM

  • Come in your PJ’s and have a relaxing evening with us! We will be doing some unwinding yoga and reading a few bedtime stories!
    • Grades K-3rd Prior Registration Required

On the Move in May Transportation Story Time Wednesday May 25th 10:00AM

  • All things that go! A fun story time with some of your favorite things, trains, buses, trucks, and more!

YA Book Reviews Wednesday May 25th 3:30PM

  • Write and share your reviews of books for the YA crowd! We’ll be posting a copy of the reviews in the teen section!
    • 7th-12th Grade Prior Registration Required

Craft Program Hosted by the Girl Scouts  Thursday May 26th  3:45PM

  • Do you love Legos? We do! We will be clearing the Children’s Section and putting out our huge collection of blocks for you to explore and construct with!  We also have great Lego books and magazines for fun and inspiration!

Opposite Day Story Time  Tuesday May 31st 10:00AM

  • We will be exploring the fun world of opposites during story time!
    • All ages

Weekly Programs

Chess Club – Mondays at 5:30PM (library closed May 30th)

Make new friends, learn the game, or test new strategies.  All ages and skill levels are welcome.  This is one of our fastest growing programs so we encourage registration for this event each week to aid with partner match ups, however, drop in guests are always welcome!

  • All ages welcome! 

**Infant – Preschool Play Group– Thursdays at 9:30AM

  • A perfect opportunity to meet families in the area! Though Ms. Robyn is not present during the program, we wanted to provide a common meeting place for families looking to socialize or for a fun morning activity!  Different books, puzzles, and music will be displayed for families to explore and check out!
    • Registration is strongly encouraged. Recommended age groups: 6mos – 3years.

**All Ages Play Group– Fridays at 10:00AM

  • A perfect opportunity to meet families in the area! Though Ms. Robyn is not present during the program, we wanted to provide a common meeting place for families looking to socialize or for a fun morning activity!  Different books, puzzles, and music will be displayed for families to explore and check out!
