March Programs!

Hello everyone!  It’s hard to believe Spring is almost upon us, I hope it will bring nicer weather and lots of fun!  The March Program Calendar is available here and you can find some detailed descriptions of the programs below 🙂

Chess Club – Mondays in March 5:30PM

  • Make new friends, learn the game, or test new strategies.  All ages and skill levels are welcome.  This is one of our fastest growing programs so we encourage registration for this event each week to aid with partner match ups, however, drop in guests are always welcome!
    • Recommended age groups: All ages welcome! 

Create Your Own Dr. Seuss Character– Monday, February 29th  and Tuesday March 1st   All Day!

  • March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’ birthday! There will be art supplies at the craft table to draw pictures of your own wacky Dr. Seuss inspired character. You can keep these drawings or give them to Ms. Robyn to be featured on our Dr. Seuss bulletin board!  There will be examples of Dr. Suess characters available such as the Lorax, a Sneetch, and more!
    • Recommended age groups: All ages welcome! 

“In Like a Lion” Story Time – Tuesday, March 1st 10:00AM

  • We’ll be kicking off March with a fun lion themed story time!
    • Recommended age groups: All ages welcome! 

Dr. Seuss Story Time!  Wednesday March 2nd 10:00AM

  • March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’ birthday! Come join us for a special story time celebrating his classic works!
    • Recommended age groups: All ages welcome! 

Play Group – Every Thursday in March 9:30AM

  • Every Thursday in March we will be hosting a play group at 9:30AM! This will be an independently run program, and the whole Children’s Section will be open for parents and caregivers to bring their little ones for play and socialization.  We will have play space on the carpet cleared and the toy box (as always) will be available for use.  There will also be specially selected stories available to look at or check out displayed on the table.  Great opportunity to meet other families in the area!
    • Recommended age groups: Infants – Preschool 

Movie Night: Balto (rated G) – Thursday March 3rd 5:00PM

  • The famous dog sled race across Alaska, the Iditarod, will begin this coming Saturday! We will be showing the movie Balto which is based on the true story of a dog who led a sled team 600 miles across Alaska to deliver medical supplies during an outbreak of diphtheria.  Balto’s quest inspired the Iditarod dog sled race!
    • Registration is encouraged! Recommended age groups: All ages welcome! 

Children’s Movies Shorts –  Every Friday in March at 10:00AM

  • We will be showing fun short children’s Children’s shows at 10:00AM every Friday in the Children’s Section! Clifford, Curious George, and Cailou will be featured!
    • Recommended age groups: All ages welcome!

 Teen Tech Week!  March 7th – March 11th

  • Teen Tech week encourages teens to explore libraries’ nonprint resources for education and recreation! There will be a Teen Tech Scavenger Hunt available all week.  Teens are welcome to grab a Scavenger Hunt form available on the meeting table at the library and explore the library, internet, and databases in all the ways the library is more than just books!
  • Teen Tech Trivia Night – Thursday March 10th 6:30PM
      • Come test your tech knowledge during this fun trivia program for bragging rights and the chance to win fabulous prizes! (Registration Required)
  • #bookfacefriday Friday March 11th 2:00PM – 4:30PM
    • #bookfacefriday is one of Instagrams most pages. Participants select book covers that show partial shots of people or places and then match the covers to real life objects to complete the picture!  There will be examples of books like this available for you to come complete the pictures!  If you have an Instagram account, don’t forget to geotag us and mention @oxfordlibct (Registration Required)

 Junior Friends of the Library Planning Meeting – Monday March 7th at 6:00PM and Tuesday March 8th at 4:15PM

  • The Junior Friends group plays an active role in planning programs, fundraisers, and making the library a better place! At the previous meeting we discussed hosting a “March Madness Movie Night!” Monday and Tuesday we will be planning which movie to show and working on movie posters to advertise the program!
    • Registration for this program is required. Recommended Age Group: 8 – 18

 Show and Tell Story Time – Tuesday March 8th 10:00AM

  • Come join us for story time with a twist! We invite you to bring a favorite toy or special item from home to talk about with our friends! This program is walk-in welcome and fun for every age!

Musical Mornings – Wednesday March 9th 10:00AM

  • Join us for a morning of music! We will be exploring instruments, dancing, sing alongs, finger plays, and more!  The program runs 30 minutes long and is fun for children of any age!
    • Recommended age groups: All ages welcome!

 Iditarod Research Project Help – Thursday March 10th 5:00PM – 6:00PM

  • Robyn will be a stocking the Children’s Section with plenty of material all about the Iditarod for all those interested as well as to aid with research for Center School’s research project! I will also be available during this time to help you find anything else you may need to make your project awesome!
    • Registration is encouraged. Recommended age groups: Grades 3 – 6

 Butterfly Story Time – Monday March 14th 6:30PM

  • Monday March 14th is National “Learn About Butterflies” Day! We will be reading fun stories and making crafts all about butterflies!
    • Registration encouraged. Recommended age groups: All ages welcome!

 “All About Agriculture” Story Time – Tuesday March 15th 10:00AM

  • March 15th is National Agriculture Day! We will be reading all about farms and food and making fun crafts too!
    • Recommended age groups: All ages welcome!

 Extreme Alaska Program – Tuesday March 15th 4:00PM – 4:30PM

  • As the Iditarod nears its end, we will be taking a look at some of the trials the racers and their dogs have faced over the course of the race! We will explore Alaskan wilderness and weather!
    • Registration required. Recommended age groups: Grades 3 – 6

 St. Patrick’s Day Story Time – Wednesday March 16th 10:00AM

  • We’ll be reading fun stories about all of the great traditions associated with St. Patrick’s Day!
    • Recommended age groups: All Ages Welcome!

  Special Program Hosted by the Girl Scouts!  Thursday March 17th   3:45PM

  • One of our local Girl Scout Troops is working toward their Bronze Award! They will be hosting their own programs the third Thursday of each month from 3:45PM to 5:15PM.  Stop by to see what fun activities they have in store and to support them as they work toward their Bronze Award!
    • All ages welcome!

 

Pokemon Club – Thursday March 17th  4:15PM

  • Bring your cards, bring your friends!  Play against opponents and try to catch ’em all!
    • Registration for this program is required.All Ages!

Movie Night Hosted by the Junior Friends of the Library! – Monday March 21st 6:00PM

  • The Junior Friends of the Library will be hosting a family movie night! Come enjoy a movie and snacks with us!
    • Registration for this program is encouraged.All Ages!

“Ewe and I” a Science Snoopers Program!  Tuesday March 22nd 10:00AM

  • Take a trip to the “baa-baa” shop as we kick off Spring with a science program about sheep and the process of shearing!
    • Registration for this program is encouraged.All Ages!

Show and Tell Story Time –Wednesday March 23rd 10:00AM

  • Come join us for story time with a twist! We invite you to bring a favorite toy or special item from home to talk about with our friends! This program is walk-in welcome and fun for every age!

Collectors Club – Wednesday March 23rd   4:15PM

  • Do you collect shells, cards, figurines, or anything else? Join us at the Collectors Club to show off your awesome collection and learn about other people’s as well!
    • Registration for this program is encouraged. Recommended age group: Grade3 – Grade6

Kid’s Yoga – Thursday March 24th 6:30PM 

  • Join us for a relaxing afternoon to unwind at the end of the week! The program will consist of deep breathing and simple stretches, no previous experience necessary, just wear comfy clothes bring a towel for a mat!
    • Registration for this program is required. Recommended age group: Grade K – 3

Egg Decorating – Monday March 28th 6:30PM

  • Kick off Spring by decorating some eggs with us!
    • Registration for this program is encouraged.All Ages!

  • We’ll be saying goodbye to March with a sweet story time about lambs and spring!
