On April 19 at 10 a.m., the Oxford Public Library will host its 4th annual Precious Prom for children! Toddlers – second graders are invited to this high-society event, which takes place during school vacation. Plus, for the first time, the prom will feature a live musician: Mr. Gym!

Mr. Gym is a physical education teacher who plays energetic songs that rock! When he starts singing, kids can’t help but boogie down! (And based on his past shows at our library, he makes parents – and this librarian – want to dance too!)

Attendees are encouraged to wear formal attire. And don’t forget a camera!

Registration is not required, but it is requested for this FREE prom. To RSVP, call the library at 203-888-6944.

New Year’s Resolution: Become an Author!

Many of our young patrons love telling stories as much as they love listening to them. Here’s a chance to put their imaginations to work!

On January 12, the library’s free Winter Writing Program for preschoolers – fifth graders will begin!

Program participants will receive blank books in which they can write and illustrate their own stories. New authors who create a book by February 23 will receive a prize. Plus, their stories will be recorded on video and posted to the library’s website.

Registration is required and will continue throughout January.

Where’s Rudolph’s favorite spot in Oxford?

The library, of course! Join us for our Rudolph-inspired holiday party, Reindeer Games, on Thursday, December 15 at 5 p.m. Children in grades preK-5 can play games, make a craft, eat a snack, and sing about everyone’s favorite reindeer! Registration is required so visit or call the library to sign up.

There are many opportunities to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, and the beginning of winter at the library. Check out our calendar page for more information.

Time to Trick-or-Treat!

Looking for family-friendly Halloween activities? Come to the library! We’re hosting Halloween events for kids of all ages!

The library will host its annual Trick-or-Treat Storytimes on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m. Listen to festive stories, sing songs and go trick-or-treating around the offices of town hall. Don’t forget your costume! No registration is required for this FREE event.

For even more Halloween fun, come to Frankenstein’s Laboratory, our mad science costume party on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m. Children in grades preK-5 will get into the spooky spirit through simple experiments. Make a ghost dance! Watch monster eyeballs grow! Listen to a haunted cup scream! Create slime! Plus, make a craft, get a treat and show off your Halloween costume. Registration is required for this free event. Visit or call the library to sign up.

Fall into Fun at the Library This Season!

The library has lots of exciting programs planned for September and October including movie nights, crafts, and a Mad Science Costume Party! Check out our calendar page – we host at least one event for children or teens every day that we’re open, all year long!

Get your dancing shoes ready!

On Thursday, August 4 at 5 p.m., the extremely popular Mr. Gym will return to the library for a children’s prom! To celebrate the end of our Wonderland summer reading program, Mr. Gym will play songs to encourage children in preK – grade 5 to boogie down!

This event is inspired by the Queen of Heart’s croquet game in the garden of roses, so the prom’s official name is the Croquet & Bouquets Sports Ball. Even if children don’t have any croquet gear, they can still get into the spirit – guests are invited to wear their favorite sports accessories. Baseball caps, soccer jerseys, swim goggles – anything to show how much we love sports! (Because this is a prom, children can wear sports accessories instead of formal attire – or along with it! It’s fun to dress up!)
